The Gospel

The Bible is God's inerrant Word, given to us as His instruction manual for all mankind to know Him.  Following Christ means that you understand you are a sinner and need a Savior.  You must REPENT of your sins and TRUST in Jesus Christ ALONE as your Savior.  Once you are saved, you belong to Him and have assurance of everlasting life.

Here is the Gospel broken down and supported by Bible verses (NKJV):

There is only one way to have eternal life:

John 14:6  Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me."

We all sin:
Romans 3:23 All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
1 John 1:10  If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

The payment for sin is death:
Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Good works cannot save us:
Ephesians 2:8-9  For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Jesus died for you, was buried, and rose from the dead:
John 3:16  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Romans 5:8  But God demonstrates His own love toward us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Imagine you are guilty of committing many serious crimes, and the judge sentences you to a million dollar fine or prison.  You cannot pay the fine, so the bailiff begins to take you to prison when someone you do not know appears.  He approaches the judge and hands him a check.  The judge informs you that the stranger has just paid your fine, and if you recognize your lawlessness and the need for the transaction to release you.  Now that the fine has been paid, the law no longer has any hold of you.  You are free -- because of the gift you were given.

This is what God did for you by sending Jesus to die on the cross in your place so you wouldn't have to go to Hell.  Then Jesus rose from the dead, forever defeating death! Our response should be to have faith in Him.

You must be born again:
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

How are you born again?

1.  Turn away from your sins (repent):
Acts 3:19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out...
(This is when you recognize your lawlessness and the need for a Savior.)

2.  Trust in the Lord Jesus Christ for your salvation:
Acts 16:31  "Believe on (trust in) the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved..."
(This is when you have faith.)

Imagine you are in a plane that is going to crash; the pilot tells you that there is a parachute under your seat and, if you put it on, it will save your life.  You know it can save you, yet it is not enough to just believe it; you must "put it on" and trust in its ability to work and save your life.  That is the same way we believe on (or trust in) the Lord Jesus. We trust that His work on the cross is sufficient enough to save us.

Pray and ask God to forgive you of your sins and to change your heart that you may receive Christ to be your Savior.  Do not wait to do this because life is short, and you do not want to die without Jesus Christ.

What do you do next?

Read your Bible everyday.

Pray everyday.

Find a Bible-teaching church.

Worship and have fellowship with other believers.

Be baptized:
Acts 2:38  Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

Share the good news of Christ with others.
Romans 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes...

Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
